Nikon Unveils the D7500, A Midrange DSLR with D500 Features

Nikon today announced the new D7500, a mid-range DSLR that shares many of the same specs and features as the high-end D500, Nikon’s flagship DX-format camera.

Inside the D7500 is the same 20.9-megapixel sensor and processor as the D500, which has a native ISO range of 100 to 51,200. ISO can also be expanded to an equivalent of 1.64 million.

The optical low-pass filter has been left out of the camera, providing sharper and clearer photos (at the expense of increased moiré in certain situations).

Hold down the shutter button, and the D7500 can shoot at 8fps with full AF/AE. The expanded buffer can store up to 50 RAW/NEF photos (14-bit lossless compressed) or up to 100 JPEG images.

On the back of the D7500 is a 3.2-inch tilting LCD touchscreen with 922,000 dots.

On top of the camera is a pop-up flash that can be used as a Commander for remote Speedlights.

In the area of video, the D7500 features 4K video recording, 4K time-lapse shooting, 3-axis built-in e-VR image stabilization during 1080p video shooting, uncompressed HDMI output, a headphone and microphone jack, power aperture for smooth depth-of-field transitions, and zebra stripes in live view.

Other specs and features of the D7500 include a 52-point AF system, a Group-Area AF feature, an 180K RGB metering system (also found in the D5 and D500), a battery with 950 shots per charge, Auto AF Fine Tune in Live View, a Retouch menu with an in-camera Batch Process RAW Converter, and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity,

It may pack many of the same features as the D500, but the D7500 features a lighter build: it’s 5% lighter than the D7200 and 16% lighter than the D500, all without sacrificing ergonomics or comprehensive weather sealing.
